As the bicameral chambers of the House and Senate in Congress have changed hands from Republican to Democrat and Democrat to Republican along with the Presidency of the United States. We must ask ourselves if these men and women have taken their Oaths of Office seriously or are they just going through the motions?
Article II, Section 1, Clause 8:
Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation: – “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
Is it possible to support the oath of office in support of the Constitution and vote in favor of the Biden-McCarthy debt ceiling?
As our nation is 32 trillion dollars in debt, and that debt is directly tied to inflation.
The fact is that the more they spend, the more they print because there aren’t enough billionaires that can be taxed to cover the bills. The more they print the less value our money has, and the less value it has the higher the rate of inflation. The higher the rate of inflation the higher the Fed will hike the interest rates to pull in the extra dollars they just printed, making it harder for the average person to put food on the table.
We’ve seen this cycle before, at the end of the Weimar Republic saw spending and inflation so severe that people had to go shopping during their lunch breaks just to make sure they bought their food before the next price hike. Images of people with wheel barrels full of German Marks just to buy a loaf of bread would be hard to replicate today since most people use debit cards, but it’s not hard to imagine if we can’t stop this cycle. It is astonishing to me how little attention this issue is getting because the truth is that our country isn’t going to be destroyed by National Socialists, White Supremacy, or any of the boogeymen getting the attention in our divisive news industry… we will be destroyed by our debt.
We need to see cuts in the trillions of dollars. The debt clock needs to be moving in reverse. So long as we have a national debt, we, our children, their children, and so on are slaves. Each of us works the first six months of the year just to make the payments on the debt. Like Calvin Coolidge before us, I believe the burden of government should be light, and that the “people of America should work less for the government, and more for themselves.” Instead, we are making the people of America work more for the benefit of the Government, and less for ourselves. This cannot continue.
There are plenty of places where serious cuts can be made without cutting into entitlements. But these discussions need to be had without the name-calling, without the finger-pointing, without the drama. Both parties are responsible for the mess we’re in. Both parties have an obligation to fix it. We have plenty of history we can learn from, Rome, Weimar, Zimbabwe, and on and on and on. There are very real consequences of the total economic collapse we could be facing if our elected officials don’t start taking this seriously.
In a letter to Elbridge Gerry, in 1799, Jefferson made clear that he was, “…for a government rigorously frugal and simple, applying all the possible savings of the public revenue to the discharge of the national debt and not for a multiplication of officers & salaries merely to make partizans, & for increasing, by every device, the public debt, on the principle of it’s being a public blessing.” It is imperative that we find leadership with that level of responsibility in dealing with our debt, lest we repeat the history of Rome, leaving another fallen empire for future generations to fail to learn from in our wake.
